darkmus: This is a two-part post!

First part/song is Jou’s POV, post-series. They’re on the rocks because Kaiba is being a cold bastard. Jou is thinking about giving up on them.
One of my puppyshipping head canons has Jou a lot more invested in their relationship than Kaiba is. This is especially in the lyric “You feel what you want / Except the pain that’s surrounding me”. 
Another head canon is that Kaiba is super posessive (which… er… isn’t healthy >_>”) Jou is hoping that that Kaiba will “Let me go go” and wants to leave Domino City “I look behind me and I’m leaving your town” (because, lol, Kaiba practically owns the city).

Anyway, I love the line “We’re fighting like kids again” that alludes to how they were when they were teenagers.

Submitter and why: I’m Queen Thief and I feel like this should be the Puppyshipping anthem. I mean, I think it follows Kaiba and Joey’s relationship pretty well (in the anime if nothing else). 1^st verse is Kaiba and Joey meeting in the game shop, when Joey “tries to talk” to Kaiba but Kaiba just “can’t relate”. Joey’s friendship was offered and retracted so quickly that I think Kaiba feels like it was “easy come, easy go”. But, in reality, Joey keeps trying to get Kaiba to listen to him all throughout their relationship. I kinda read “freak out” and “throw a fit” as pseudonyms for the epic duels and fights that they always have.

2^nd verse is Kaiba asking Joey, “Really, why do you think I’m here, focusing so much attention on you?” Because Kaiba isn’t the only one who won’t listen, as Joey doesn’t seem to pick up on the fact that Kaiba devotes more attention to him than anyone else (except Yugi, his rival, and Mobuba, his brother).

It’s not a deep song, but I didn’t choose it because it represented their deeper feelings. I chose it because I felt like it reflects one aspect of Kaiba and Joey’s relationship really well; that aspect being all the surface tension and miscommunication that people think this couple is famous for.

darkmus: I mostly see this as Kaiba’s POV, but I can see this working for either of them. Contradictions, perceptions that their relationship doesn’t work… but in the end, it actually does.

The reason I say Kaiba’s POV is because as much as Kaiba wants to be the best and seems to have a lot of things going for him, it’s not so completely true. Joey helps him become a more complete person - being the best thing to happen to him.
